This converter works exclusively with M.2 SATA SSDs. To determine what type of M.2 drive you use, simply see the number of recesses (or keys) on the drive connected to the M.2 connection. SATA-based M.2 drives have two recesses (one key M and a key B), while PCIe-based M.2 drives only have one recess (a key M).
