Network technology. What is it?

Network technology or computer network and the data network is a telecommunication network, in which one integrates computer and server in order to exchange data. In computer networking, networked computing devices that transmit data along data connections to each other. The connections (network connections) between nodes are established either by cable or wireless media. The best-known computer network is the Internet. Network computer devices that have their origin in the dissemination of data are called network nodes. Such nodes can contain hosts, such as servers, switches and PCs, and network hardware. Should be a device able to exchange information with other devices, then must be linked to each other at least two devices.

The network technology supports applications such as access to the World Wide Web, the sharing of application and storage servers, printers and fax machines, the use of e-mail and instant messaging applications. Computer networks, however, differ in the used physical media that are needed in order to transmit their signals. The communication protocols are there to organize the network traffic and the size of the network. The physical layout of a network is somewhat less important than the topology in which network nodes are connected in the rule. Most diagrams are developed to describe a physical network technology are therefore more likely topologically as geographically. The symbols on the diagrams typically refers to network connections and network nodes. About the devices of a computer network especially a variety of communication media, such as electrical cable (HomePNA, power line communication, G.hn), optical fiber (fiber communication) and radio waves are (wireless networks). The physical layer and the data link layer - in the OSI model, which are defined in Layers 1 and 2. A widely used family of communication media used in the local area network (LAN) is known as the Ethernet. The media and protocol standards that allow communication between networked devices via Ethernet are defined as IEEE 802.3. The Ethernet data transmission usually runs over copper and fiber optic cable. Wireless LAN standards (such as those defined by IEEE 802.11), or other radio waves, infrared signals, however, to use as a transfer medium. However, power line communications uses the electrical wiring of a building to transfer data.

A network interface controller (NIC), a particular computer hardware that provides the ability to access the communication media, and also has the ability to process low-level network information. For example, the network card accept a "connector" for a cable or have an antenna for wireless transmission and reception and associated circuits. In addition, the network card allows access to an identifier for either a network card or the computer as a whole. For Ethernet networks, each network interface controller has a unique Media Access Control (MAC) address, which is typically stored in the permanent memory of the control unit.
