Layer 3 switching
In contrast to the Layer 2 switch, a Layer 3 switch operates at the network layer of the OSI model. Here come instead of MAC addresses and IP addresses and ports used. Basically, you can consider a layer as a combination of switch and router 3 switch, the integration of such a device in a network requires a custom configuration and is therefore fundamentally more complex, but also offers more options than a Layer 2 switch.
