The devices Dell PowerConnect 3348 is sophisticated Layer 2 switches that can be used individually or in the stack. The PowerConnect 3348 can also be used as stand-alone Layer 2 switching
systems. The PowerConnect 3348 devices are managed
either via In-Band Management (via the network station) or via the console
When operating as a stack member has any PowerConnect 3348 unit 48 10BaseT / 100BaseTX Fast Ethernet ports, one Gigabit Ethernet Combo port (10/100/1000 BaseT or mini-GBIC port) and a Giga Ethernet -Stack port.
When operating as an independent unit, the stack ports of the PowerConnect 3348 can be used as Giga Ethernet ports.
Overview of the Stack-mounting the PowerConnect 3324/3348
The use of the PowerConnect 3348 in the stack allows for the management of multiple devices from a central point, as if all stack members are a single unit. Access to all components from a single IP address for SNMP management and a console / telnet session through which the entire stack is managed.
The PowerConnect 3348 supports a maximum of six stacks of units or the extension to 192 Fast Ethernet and six Gigabit Ethernet ports. The PowerConnect 3348 devices can also be used as standalone units.
During the stack setup a device is selected by the network administrator as the stack master, while the other devices are configured as stack members and assigned a unique Unit ID.
PowerConnect 3324/3348 stacks provide stack across Layer 2 functionality, including:
VLANs can be configured on different ports stack components, for example, and there is the ability to configure the port mirroring so that it is done from a second to a third stack member. Applications in a stacking configuration are performed centrally. For example, the Spanning Tree Protocol for the entire stack on the master unit is running. Device software is downloaded separately for each stack member.
The PowerConnect 3348-stack architecture supports dynamic address entry for the stack topology. In addition, the terminals can be determined with minimal deterioration of the stack operation and reconfigured if any of the following events occurs:
- a unit fails
- disconnection between units
- Inserting a unit
- Remove a stack unit
General Equipment Components
The PowerConnect 3348 contains the following hardware components:
CPU - based on Motorola's MPC 8245.
- FLASH - Contains 8 MB FLASH memory
- SDRAM - Includes 32MB .
The PowerConnect 3348 features 48 FE 10BaseT / 100BaseTX UTP copper ports (RJ45) per unit and two combo ports. Each combo port is a logical port that has the following two physical interfaces:
- 1000Base-T ports
- Mini-GBIC (SFP) ports
There may be only one each of the two physical connections of a combo port used.
If Auto MDIX is enabled, automatically detects the PowerConnect 3348 on all ports the difference between crossover and "straight-through" cabling.
The PowerConnect 3348 supports a speed of 10/100 Mbit / s ports for copper in half or full duplex mode.
