Monitoring the VI500 R1U UPS
4 from 5

I have 2 of these rack mounting UPS units. One is connected to a NAS and can be monitored via the NAS using the USB port. The other is supporting a managed Ubiquity POE switcher and so the USB port cannot be used. In this case I have installed the NMC (Network Management Card), which plugs into a receptacle on the rear of the UPS. The NMCs Ethernet port is connected to a spare port on the Ubiquity network switch. I downloaded the discovery software from the URL given in the short NMC instructions and once installed this immediately found the NMC, allowing me to log in and set the required parameters to my own requirements. I am now able easily to remotely monitor the UPS. I would have given 5 stars but for the fact that the NMC card costs more than the UPS that it monitors, which seems somewhat unreasonable. I have demonstrated that it is also possible to monitor the UPS using a LattePanda single board PC via the USB port of the UPS (using the earlier version of the PowerWalker monitoring software, v2.13SP1), however the cost of the PC+Windows licence is virtually the same as this more convenient method via the NMC unit. Hence I decided to purchase this NMC card.
